Whip holder

I just received Noel Howards gun belt with attached whip holder. From the pictures I have seen the whip holder seems too big. As I do not have a whip yet, I can not comfirm this. I have posted a pic of the belt/holder at:

I would like to know what other peoples experience is. Also the holder is riveted to the belt. Would it be easy to take the rivets off trim the holder an re-rivet it to the belt? (Without causing damage to the belt?)
The length of the holder is 14.4 cm as seem in pic. The inside measurment (where the whip would go) is about 9.7 cm.
