I'm still not clear on what "side flap fold things" are, though
you seem to be describing the action pleats beneath the arms of
the jacket. On my Wested, they are approximately 1-inch deep.
They seem to work fine, too. About the linings: I have the original
cotton silesia lining, which keeps you warm when it is cold,
clings to the shirt, making it difficult to get the jacket on
over the long sleeves of the M.B.A. shirt (you have to pinch the
sleeves in your fingers while you shrug on the jacket, then pull
the cuffs out from inside the jacket sleeve) I know it sounds
difficult, but the jacket stays put once everything is in place.
Also, having actually trekked through the Mojave Desert in full
Indy gear, the jacket, surprisingly, doesn't cause you to sweat
as much as you might think. (Only on your lower back, mostly)
The satin lining looks neater, enables you to slip the jacket on
over the shirt without problems, and probably won't get damaged
much, as it is on the inside of the jacket, and, therefore, is
not subject to much contact with the elements.

: I was wondering how deep are the the side flap fold things? My Guide Gear jacket's side flap folds are about an inch deep. Its sort of anoying when you move the arms and the fold gets expanded out and you can see that they arent deep. As for Wested's two options of linings, wich is a better choice? The satin looks great with its sheen etc, but if you get a small tear or hole, that type of material frays and unravels. The coton looks alright, but it doesnt grab attention like the satin. I was told it is like a brown t-shirt. I have cut t-shirts with scisors for making a costume in a 5th grade play and even though the edges are not stitched, it wont fray or unravel. In fact, they even role up on their own.
