My romantic nature leads me to believe that there really was a global deluge, just as described in the Bible. Evidence may be found in ancient folktales from all over the world. There is a very interesting book explaining how it was possible (but as I am currently at work, I can't give you the title). And don't forget about a certain sea vessel resting on Mount Ararat, mentioned way back when by Marco Polo, seen on many occassions ever since, yet still waiting to be "officially" discovered.
