I don't think it was Lucas's intent to have a "transparent layer" of
stone above the "X". I think that theory goes a bit overboard. If
Indy is 6 feet tall, there is no logical reason why going up another
10 feet (climbing the staircase) would then allow him to see the "X".
The "X" was there the entire time -- Elsa, Indy and Marcus just didn't
look down.

And I didn't see any part of the "X" when Indy is blowing the dust out between
the marble blocks. All I see is green marble. There should be at least
some "X" and some white marble showing. Lets be realistic here.
