: Being a viewer of movies from 1928 to 1998, I can tell you the reason that people are so quick to jump onto "Titanic" as the one of the all-time greatest:
: We are in dire need of another "Casablanca", another "Ten Commandments" and another "Raiders". Granted alot of people don't take "Raiders" seriously, but that could be attributed to the other two, that kinda swiped the mystique and charm from the freshness of the original.
: What we need is another PG rated, nudity/profanity free four-star classic that literally the whole family can enjoy, from the action loving kids, the gore/romance loving teenagers, to the adults that know where the director is coming from. We need another all-time classic, so bad in fact, we try to find one where there is the slightest hint of one exists. I'm sorry to say, but I also can't feature DiCaprio in a movie of this kind.

No need to be. You're right. Also, I think it's a testimony to see films being compared to the supreme caliber of the films you mentioned and others. They set the standards of today's movies. But there isn't a lot of genuine freshness anymore. The only thing anyone'll compare Titanic to is when another movie surpasses $200 million for a budget or $600 million for grosses, the latter of those will no doubt be broken by the new Star Wars movies and the next Indy. Plus, all the afore mentioned movies didn't cost that much to make at the time they were made. And no fancy computers either. That was no CGI of Ford under the Nazi truck. And the parting of the Red Sea is absolutely awesome. Stuart got nominated? She sat there and talked and grew young and old and young and old. The best shot in the whole damn movie is the very final shot where...no, I guess it's a spoiler for those who've been fortunate enough not to see it. But it's one of the few cinematic scenes thatmake me want to cry (at least until they kiss). The other one is where ET hugs Elliott. Nuff said, more later. G'night.
