I too have an old Banana Republic G-8 goatskin flight jacket. It is my favorite leather jacket and it has been through hell and back. This includes 2 whitewater rafting trips, countless camping expeditions, multiple flights to Europe stuffed into a travel bag etc. It is the jacket I routinely use to change the oil in my Jeep. Just lie down on the cement and shimmy under the jeep and away you go. The inside quilted lining is all ripped up but the leather is still going strong. I can tell you from experience that goat skin is very very durable. Horse is even more durable but it is much heavier. Horse leather also has the unique ability to always retain a shine. Makes great shoes but I would question its use on jackets unless you are really looking for authenticity.
