I bought denatured alcohol, since I get a rash from contact with acetone. I pick my materials accordingly.

PS: I think that pure denatured alcohol would be a very good solvent for shellac. ;)
PPS: Shellac is used for making hat stiffener...

: Yeah, I guess they can put whatever they want in there to make it "denatured", but most of the time when you read the label on that stuff, you will see they put some acetone in it. That's just my experience form working with the stuff, as I've used it quite a bit with shellac in finishing furniture.
