INdy didn't need Sunday school to ask that question he, as an archaeologist, and world traveler, expert in ALL religions (more or less) would already know about the Ark no matter what. Indy would of course head the warning about closing your eyes to the power of the ark because he has dealt with all types of mystical and supernatural stuff he would heed any waring giving by something of that nature. Indiana Jones is a scientist, he believes in what he sees and he has seen many religions and supernatural happenings not just Christian. Him chanting at the end of Temple was the same thing as his "Leap of Faith" his putting his chances in something else other than himself.....
