No, they don't, that would damage the leather and slowly destroy the jacket. You can really ruin a jacket the way you're talking about. Only prop departments of movie studios do that to age a jacket but actual leather jacket companies use a dying process where some parts of the jacket are dyed lighter than other parts, this makes the jacket look older and as if the dye faded off the jacket with time.
In a way a factory does what MK does when distressing a jacket, fading some areas of the dye so the jacket looks older. You can put jackets into the dryer (NO HEAT) to soften it up but putting a jacket with pebbles into a dryer would beat and punish the leather and also weakening it, kinda like dragging the jacket behind a truck. This would cut the life of your jacket very short.
