That is what makes him human. The flaw usually catches up with hero in a more or less tragic end. Indiana Jones must be no exception.
He is a man driven by the urge to search for the ultimate mysteries. He is a thrill-junkie. Without the search he does not feel fulfilled. Just watch him teach. It is obvious, he would much rather be challenging fate.
For Indy it is the journey that counts. The occasional artifact that he actually snatches is just a bonus and justification for his exploits.
