All good points. I use a pair of surgical scissors, and the chalk technique as well. And it does help in accuracy to make sure the marks front to back are equal on both sides. Lately, I prefer to come inward 1/4 an inch from the original marks fore and aft, and start my blending from there. It makes for a less pointier brim as the blending area ends sooner.
