I think everyone pretty much KNOWS that a fourth movie will incorporate a son/daughter or some kind of younger colleague counterpart, that's a GIVEN. Every single "aging hero" movie plays this card, and I think this's one of the key factors that make fans nauscious when 'Indy 4' is mentioned.

But your idea about having Indy transform into a man closer in character to his father is unique, and pretty intriguing. Up 'til now, Indy's been sort of a "Devil-may-care" kinda guy, who doesn't hold back when danger is present. But perhaps as Indy ages he starts to see just how risky and foolish his past adventures were, and maybe he begins to have reservations about being "the hero". Maybe he develops more fears than just the Snake-a-phobia.
