I'll post this on Indygear as well, but it follows a string comparing DM'a and MA whips. Somebody claimed a MA offering was geared towards replicating some of the nuances which tend to make the David Morgan whip different from the other whips available. My understanding has always been that the Joe Strain made whips are the way to go if you're buying a whip from Mark - I've had a few of these and I'd reccomend them anytime to anybody!

Anyway, this was Mark Allen's response regarding what might be construed as a "knock-off" of a DM somebody claimed MA was selling:

"Dear Todd,
Thank you for your interest in our products.
You have many questions. It would be easier to talk to you on the phone than
to write but I will try.
1. No two whips made by DM or anyone else are going to be the same. I collect
whips from every whip maker I hear about. Every year the whip maker gets
better and refines his skill.
2. DM didn't invent the double belly whip. He was one of the first to build
them. There are 4 whip makers that I know that make the same whip. Joe Strain
makes the closest whip to DM. He even gets the same hides as DM. The other
whips are not as close as DM to the Movie whip. I do sell another copy but
the Joe Strain is the best.
3. The weight in the handle and the thong will vary per each whip. No two
over a whip makers 40 year career will be the same and the work will change
over the years.
If you have any other questions please give me a call.
Mark Allen"

A very nice man - I wish I did have time to call and chat with him, but duty calls!

Cheers!

Patterson
