Who's to say that he didn't behave foolishly when he was going after artifacts himself? What if his behavior in LC was the result of being back in the element of his youth? He certainly seems to revert to his youth when around Henry Jones (whom no one seems to mind was played for laughs throughout the film).

We only see Brody in his scholar/concerned friend role in Raiders, which we also see him repeat in LC up until he goes off with Indy.

Perhaps he doesn't share the adage of "Let's be careful out there"?
