Dawson explains it in the first episode: The posters from Always and 1942 hang in the closet because they had no public success but they have to be in his room to complete his Spielberg collection.

BTW: Another fancy idea from the show: Dawson said everything someone must know can be learned from Spielberg movies and gives some examples. But he never said what he had learned from Indy. I am curiouse what that might be :)
