Considering that being a Jedi runs within blood lines would make this a plausible explanation, how would it run within generations otherwise? It was passed from Anakin to Luke and Leia somehow. The Force is still a mystical energy field that surrounds everything, but you have to be within the Jedi bloodline in order to sense it or use it. This was a much better explanation than to say that Jedi are some kind of alien species or something- which in my opinion is more Trek-ish than this.
