HOw does Indy hold his breathe on the U-Boat in "Raiders?"

A friend and I have been having a debate over this. To me, it looks like it doesn't go under water. At least not all the way. Whatta you guys think?

• right after raiders came out, I saw an interview with Spielberg, and he said that during the test screening, the audience thought that Indy looked too much like he was waterskiing without the ski's since hed did not have his whip.
